“Truth has many faces. Even a simple ‘I Love You’
has many undercurrents which one can never see and feel”. And ‘truth’ when
presented to please is often modified to suit the people concerned”, reasoned Arun,
his close friend and attorney.
Kabir’s mind wobbled with the twisted facts his
father had presented about his mother’s death.
For almost 30
years he was oblivious to the fact that his mother was murdered for objecting
to his father’s unprecedented and ever escalating demand for dowry. Kabir
wished he knew then what he knew now.
Different take on the prompt! Better late than never..

DeleteA very timely and a serious issue dealt with such alacrity.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Ma'am. I seriously feel that nothing has much been improved even after the dowry laws.
DeleteDowry is a bane which separates families and takes away lives.
ReplyDeleteIt is... And what is shocking is still people give away dowry on "AS A GESTURE, IN OUR CULTURE TO GIVE GIFTS' etc. Sad reality.

Society still doesn't want to change the age old ritual which still ruins many families and lives of innocent brides.
DeleteThe way you went with this prompt was really fascinating. Isn't it tragic that dowry deaths are still a reality in today's society? Good to meet you via Write Tribe. I have been here for a few months now :)
